Ümran Üngün joined Robert College in 1980 as the Director of Business & Finance, following a leadership position at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, US. Ms. Üngün currently serves at Robert College as the CFO and Associate Head of School.
Ms. Üngün oversees the overall financial strategy and direction at Robert College. She directs the accounting, tax, and internal audit functions to ensure compliance with the Turkish and US accounting and legal rules, regulations, and reporting requirements.
Ms. Üngün controls the same functions for the school’s related foundations: Robert College Foundation, (US-based), İleri Educational Foundation, (Turkey-based), RCUK, (UK-based), and the Hisar Foundation (Turkey-based).
Human resources, facilities, risk management, legal affairs, emergency preparedness, and health & safety are also included in her areas of responsibility. In addition, she leads projects assigned by the Head of School and spearheads certain initiatives of the school’s Strategic Plan.
Ms. Üngün (’70 ACG) holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boğaziçi University and has a MA degree in business finance from Johns Hopkins University.
During her professional career at Robert College, Ms. Üngün has participated in various professional development programs in education institutions, including European Council of International Schools, (ECIS), Near Eastern Schools Association, (NESA), and New York Schools Association of Independent Schools, (NYSAIS).
Ms. Üngün has also served on the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation program and participated as an auditor in the accreditation of Harrow International School Beijing and ACS Cobham International School in London.
Ms. Üngün’s approach to life is “work hard, strive through the challenges and always look ahead.” She applies that same attitude to her professional life at Robert College and moves through the challenges confidently, with a “yes, we can” approach, guided by the Core Values and Guiding Principles of her alma mater, Robert College.
