Yavuz Gönülsen passed away on February 7, 2021. While at RC he was the captain of the soccer team. After graduating from Robert College, Yavuz Gönülsen received his master’s in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University. He worked for the State of Illinois Department of Transportation for over forty years. Yavuz and his brother Aydin helped develop Springfield’s youth soccer program in 1970, and he was an active soccer referee and volunteer. An avid runner, he completed twelve marathons. Yavuz Gönülsen is fondly remembered by his classmates. He is survived by his wife Linda Stanley; his children Joy Stark, Tim Gönülsen and Jason Gönülsen; his grandchildren, Charlie and Ryan Stark; and his brother Akın Gönülsen.
