The Feriköy Protestant Cemetery holds a special place in the institutional memory of Robert College. Many of the people who are buried there left a lasting impact on the school and on the multitudes of students who they educated; from the family members of RC founder Cyrus Hamlin, to the English teacher Hilary Sumner-Boyd who helped develop leading Turkish actors, to German teacher Traugott Fuchs who left behind an important body of art, to John Freely who not only taught generations of physicists, but also shared the history of Istanbul and the region through his books in a way which has captivated countless travelers and history aficionados.
