Gracing the Turkish stages in myriad plays, Genco Erkal has also acted in films. His latest, Genco: Tiyatroya Adanmış Bir Yaşam (Genco: A Life Dedicated to Theater), is an autobiographical documentary. The film intends to convey a certain period in Turkish theater history, through anecdotes and recollections. It premiered in summer 2021, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of Erkal’s career. At the premier, Erkal said “What else can a person wish for? This is truly a gift.” In the film itself, Erkal states, “Every moment on stage was a joy for me, and I enjoyed it as if I would never be able to do it again. My time on this earth has passed with this joy, and I hope it continues the same way because my journey continues.” Erkal has often credited his time at RC as solidifying his passion for theater.
