The collection of poems in English explores different aspects of love.
On September 3, 2022, the second Altın Kalem Ödülleri (Golden Pen Awards) were given by the Book Culture Art Times newspaper, and Gül Özseven won an award with her new poetry book Whispers (Cinius Yayınları), in the category Best Poetry in English. Özseven started writing poetry at Robert College. Ever since her studies at Bryn Mawr College, she has been writing in English.
Whispers is Gül Özseven’s sixth poetry book in English and explores different aspects of love. Childhood fairytales like Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty constitute the sources of Özseven’s inspiration: “We live in a very quick-moving age, where love relationships start and end like fast-food restaurant menus. You devour them and move on, if there is the slightest problem, without patience, depth or endurance. The book’s cover features a frog, inspired by The Frog Prince because there are many love poems in this book, but I don’t want the reader to think that every poem is a dedication to somebody else. We don’t need to kiss many different frogs before we find the correct man, Mr. Right for us, who turns into a prince.”
