Toygun Yılmazer RC 96 Creates Podcast on Cultural Shifts

Each episode looks at the impact on Turkey of different cultural concepts.

Global advertising company TBWA has a cultural intelligence unit named Backslash, which has a Global Edges Report. Edges are cultural shifts that are rooted in human values and are recognizable through consumer behaviors. Toygun Yılmazer, CSO of TBWA Turkey, is the creator and host of a podcast called Geleceği Görenler (Those Who See the Future) where he focuses on each cultural edge and explores its relevance for Turkey. Mind maintenance, artificial creativity and circular aftermarkets are some of the edges that have been previously discussed. Each podcast episode features an expert on the subject. Prof. Dr. Levent Kurnaz, Dr. İrem Ergün and Kaan Sezyum were some of the guests.

Yılmazer started the show with the most crucial subjects for Turkey: the earthquake, the economy and resilience after the elections. For the neo-collectivism episode, he traveled to Hatay and joined the collective movement of Gönül Mutfağı, the voluntary cooking factory that prepares meals for the earthquake victims. He interviewed the world-famous social gastronomy chef Ebru Baybara Demir at the location. The Kinder Cult episode with Sunay Akın has a special place in his heart. He started the chat believing that adults playing with toys is an act of escapism, but he ended up realizing that it is rather a longing for freedom.

The idea for the podcast show came to life after the Culture Next Cultural Edges Conference, planned for March 2023, was cancelled due to the earthquake. Yılmazer believes that that unfortunate cancellation turned into a great experience, and a chance to chat with great experts every two weeks.
