Ayşe Vafi passed at the age of 92 on January 10, 2022. In her youth, she worked for travel agencies as a translator and event organizer. She was an avid traveler and had vivid memories and documentation of her early cruises to NYC and Cuba in the 1950s. She was also an honorary member of Galatasaray Sports Club as a top-notch swimmer, winning many medals. During her years in Ankara, she worked in the fashion industry, which was revolutionary for those years. In the 1980s she moved back to Arnavutköy, where she was born and raised. She had a passion for jazz and loved to play bridge. She will be remembered for her bright red lipstick smile, her kind heart caring for everybody nearby and far-away and also for supporting NGO’s of educational and environmental missions. She is survived by her daughter Leyla Derya and Leyla’s partner OIuş Boratav. - Contributed by Leyla Derya
