Önder Arı was born in 1938 in Istanbul. After graduating from Robert Academy, he studied at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Economics. In 1966 he did his doctorate thesis on “Advocacy Groups and Turkey,” and his associate professor thesis on “Leadership Process and the Turkish Parliament” in 1971 as a small group study. In 1977, for his professorship, he presented his thesis on “Quantitative Approaches and Research in International Relations.” From 1968 to 1981 he worked as a researcher and professor at the University of Iowa, San Francisco State University, and Southwest Texas State University, where he gave graduate and post-graduate lessons and conferences on political science and international relations. From 1966 to 1997, Önder Arı was a professor in Istanbul University’s International Relations department. After retiring, he taught at various private universities. He passed away on January 14, 2022. He is dearly missed by his wife Nergiz and children Başak and Ali Rıza.
