For their annual performance, the Turkish Theater Club presented Aşk-ı Memnu, adapted for the stage by Tarık Günersel from Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil’s unforgettable novel, on March 5 and 6. The plot revolves around Bihter who married Adnan, an older man, to get away from her mother, and the forbidden love between Adnan and his niece Behlül.
The novel was first published in 1897-1898 as a feuilleton in Servet-i Fünun magazine. Along with telling the dramatic story of a family, it casts light upon the social relationships of the period. The LP, L9 and L10 students who played the characters were received great applause from the audience. The students were delighted to have successfully performed a play that was also adapted to TV and became an acclaimed series.
